Getting Around Freeport

Getting Around

Getting around Freeport, Grand Bahama is easy and surprisingly affordable, in part because there are various methods of transportation. Choose between rental cars, motor scooters, buses and taxis – even water taxis. Bicycles, however, are not as easily available to rent. Many of the upscale hotels and resorts offer their own transportation to their guests.

Freeport Jitney bus

Freeport Jitney bus

By Minibus:

Jitney minibuses are the most used and most popular form of transportation on the island. On average, a ride from the Freeport Airport airport to Taino Beach Resort or Flamingo Bay Hotel and Marina will cost you about $27 each way for two people, and an extra $3 for each additional passenger. Roundtrip transportation from Freeport Airport to the Freeport Cruise Port is $87.42

By Auto Taxi:

Auto Taxis in Freeport are easy to find and are usually quicker than driving on your own. The downside is that many cabs are in poor condition, so your ride in an auto taxi might be somewhat on the bumpy side. In addition, many streets of Freeport are also in poor condition.

Freeport Water Taxi

Freeport Water Taxi will take you from your hotel to Casino and Marketplace.

By Water Taxis:

A fun and convenient way to get around the island is by Water Taxi. There are water taxis always ready to take you from Flamingo Bay Hotel and Marina to Treasure Bay Casino and Port Lucaya Marketplace.

Some of the higher end hotels will offer their own transportation for getting around such as shuttle buses. Flamingo Bay Hotel and Marina provides a ferryboat every hour from 8:00am -11:00pm. that will take you to Port Lucaya Marketplace. The cost is $2.50 one way per person.

Finally, getting around Freeport is, for the most part, relatively easy, especially in areas where there are tourists and hotels.
