Passport Grand Bahama Entry Requirements

As required by US government:

US citizens over 16 years of age are required to present a valid passport, passport card or other proof of citizenship when traveling on the Bahamas shuttle boat to or from the Bahamas. They must also present a valid government-issued photo ID, such as a driver’s license, or any other compliant document.

Proof of Citizenship Examples

  • Certified U.S. birth certificate (no copies) with seal on it .
  • Original certificate of U.S.
  • Passengers who already applied for a passport cannot use those naturalization papers. US citizens 15 years of age or under and born in the US require an original state issued birth certificate or a valid non-cancelled US passport. Please note that copies of birth certificates are not acceptable.

Customs Grand Bahama Entry Requirements

  • American citizens born outside the US 15 years old or younger require either a valid US passport or an original naturalization certificate, accompanied by a valid photo ID. PLEASE NOTE: Passport application receipts will not be accepted for travel. US legal alien residents must present their non-expired alien resident card. US legal alien residents that are Bahamian citizens must also present their Bahamian passport.
  • Canadian citizens require either a Canadian passport or a Canadian citizenship ID accompanied by another valid Canadian government issued photo id.
  • All other travelers must have valid passports from their country of origin along with a multiple entry US visa and, if necessary, a Bahamian visa, (please check with the Bahamian consulate).

A Note About Minors Traveling: When minors travel with only one parent, a notarized letter of permit from the parent not traveling may be requested. If traveling with non-parents, a notarized letter from the minor’s guardians will be required. The letter should indicate that the non-parents are authorized to travel outside the country with the minor.

Permanent Resident passengers must carry their valid card on them at all times.

The Commonwealth of The Bahamas does not require visas. When entering the Bahamas, you will receive an immigration card to complete and sign. The card has a carbon copy. You must keep this carbon copy until departure, at which time it must be turned into authorities. A departure tax must be paid before you can exit the country.

Canadian Citizens

Canadian citizens do not need a visa to visit The Bahamas, can remain there for a maximum 8 months, AND must show the following documents:

  • A Canadian passport, with an expiration date not less than 3 months after leaving The Bahamas
  • A Canadian passport not less than 6 months if transiting through other countries such as the US;
  • A return ticket

Canadian Permanent Residents

Permanent Residents of Canada may stay in The Bahamas for 30 days without a visa, and must be able to show the following documents:

  • A valid passport from your country of origin with expiration date, after return from The Bahamas, NOT be less than 3 months for direct travel and NOT less than 6 months if transiting through other countries such as the US;
  • An original Canadian Permanent Resident CARD with expiration date NOT less than 3 months for direct travel and NOT less than 6 months if transiting through other countries such as the US;
  • A return ticket

Latin American Citizens

Latin American citizens entering the Bahamas must present a valid passport which must cover the period of intended stay. Auhorities will not require travelers to have a Bahamas visa when staying less than 3 months. Additionally, you must have a return ticket or onward journey ticket, hotel confirmation or name and address of residence staying and proof of funds to support the visit.

Other Countries

To enter The Bahamas, citizens from countries other than the US , Canada or Latin America must present a valid passport. The passport must be current up to your travel period. A Bahamas visa is required by some countries. The Bahamian government will enforce this when departing The Bahamas for a country that has the passport validity requirement of six months beyond the dates of departure. You must also have a return, or onward journey ticket, hotel confirmation or name and address of residence staying and proof of funds to support your visit.
